KING EDWARD SCHOOL

King Edward VII School

Taiping's Central English School was established in 1883 and later it was incorporated with the King Edward School (1905) thus becoming the pioneer school in Malaya.

This year (2008) it celebrates the 125 years anniversary. As an Edwardian structure the building is an imposing heritage of the town.

The first principal of the Central School was Mr. C. Greene from 1899 to 1905, and Mr. R.F. Stainer from 1905 to 1921. There is a road named after Mr. R.F. Stainer, near the school. It now carrys the as Jalan Dr. Arasaratnam.

Sir Frank Swettenham played a part in the early stages of the school.
